Description

New for 2020, the Desert Tech MDRX, takes the company’s revolutionary bullpup rifle design to the next level. MDRX rifles now feature an upgraded polymer resin formula for enhanced durability against high impact falls. Additionally, gas block drainage on the MDRX has been improved to dramatically increase reliability after submersion in mud and water. The trigger of the MDRX has been improved, providing a lighter pull with less creep. All MDRX rifles now feature the new Ratchet Compensator, which provides excellent control and recoil reduction without subjecting the shooter to gas blowback.

Built on a gas piston system and featuring a compact bullpup design, the MDRX flawlessly combines functionality, modularity, and ergonomics. The MDRX continues to utilize the MDR’s patented forward ejection system that makes the rifle ambidextrous without reconfiguration, as well as sending spent brass toward the target and not the guy next to you. The rifle features a full length Picatinny rail that extends to the end of the handguard as well as industry standard M-Lok attachment points. The MDRX, is available in four chamberings: .223 Wylde, .300 BLACKOUT, .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor.

Pretty awesome. Had a few feeding issues brand new, but I opened 'er up and oiled every joint (trigger linkage, mag release linkage, etc.) and friction surface I could find - zero issues since. The metal picatinny lug on top of the gas block, interrupting the rail, was a dumb idea. Understand they did it to mount their little micro red dot sight solid to the barrel, but it was super dumb. Having something that can get sticky-hot (skin-melting hot) right where you hold the gun = super, super dumb. The gun is also heavy, and really tail-heavy. Suppressor helps balance it, but not all the way. Optic options are limited because you do NOT want to add weight to this gun unless it's on the end of the barrel. I had a Razor II 1-6x in a Scalarworks mount on it and it was just ridiculous, and suuuper top-heavy - would try to roll your wrist sideways. Switched to a Primary Arms 2x prism, cut 1lb off the total weight, and it's great. Still have BDC markings out to 500yds to take advantage of the 16" barrel. Shoots great. Looks great. Feels great. Suppresses nice. Adjustable gas block is nice. No big gas-in-the-face issues (like Tavor). Not sure the Forward Eject has any benefit. I don't like not being able to see into the chamber and do press-checks to see if I'm loaded or not. The Side Eject model weighs half a pound less, and that weight difference is in the rear of the gun, where it's super overweight. So I am actually buying a SE model to compare to the FE model, and will probably be selling the FE. Curious to see if the FE does better containing the suppressor gas blowback compared to the SE model. But a half-pound weight savings on the tail of the gun, and potentially more reliability (simpler mechanism) sounds good to me. Overall a solid 4/5. Almost perfect. The SE model may be closer to perfect. FWIW I emailed Desert Tech to confirm that yes indeed the SE model is gassed lighter than the FE model, so you can't just "convert" your FE to SE by installing the SE kit. Your FE gun will be a little overgassed compared to a factory-built SE gun.
